Né en 1974 en Suisse, Pe Lang possède une formation en électronique et en programmation informatique qui imprègne l’esthétique de ses œuvres d’art. L’artiste se consacre à la création d’œuvres cinétiques, d’une élégance toujours mystérieuse et captivante, composées de systèmes mécanisés mettant en jeu des phénomènes physiques : mouvement, magnétisme, frottement, son, diffraction de la lumière, gravitation… Ces éléments sont combinés et programmés dans ses œuvres avec équilibre, oscillant entre ordre et désordre, contrôle et hasard, afin de créer une chorégraphie visuelle dans laquelle le spectateur trouve ces sens sollicités. 

Figure de la nouvelle génération de l’abstraction constructive, Pe Lang s’impose progressivement comme le représentant d’une vision helvétique de l’art concret caractérisée par la qualité d’exécution ainsi que la forme géométrique et la sobriété. Maîtrise absolue des effets technologiques et des propriétés intrinsèques des matériaux utilisés, contrôle rigoureux du mouvement et des réactions qu’il génère, virtuosité technique jusque dans la recherche de la plus extrême sobriété des dispositifs adoptés, Pe Lang s’attache à créer des œuvres minimalistes d’une grande simplicité structurelle et dénuées de signes ornementaux.

Ses œuvres sont visibles dans de nombreuses collections permanentes (Boghossian Foundation, Villa Empain, Bruxelles; Futurium, Berlin…) ainsi que dans des expositions que lui consacrent des institutions d’art contemporain (Museum of Digital Art, Zurich; Fondation Vasarely, Aix-en-provence; Johnson Museum of Art, New York…). Sa reconnaissance internationale grandissante se confirme également par les prix qu’il reçoit notamment le prix Aurélie Nemours qui récompense son travail ainsi que sa collaboration avec la sound artist et compositrice grecque Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri.

Nous sommes heureux de présenter pour la troisième fois une exposition personnelle de l’artiste Pe Lang. Cette exposition présente son exploration artistique la plus récente, continuant à concevoir des espaces inédits mécaniques à l’esthétique subtile. La galerie denise rené, qui accueille depuis sa création les propositions les plus novatrices de l’abstraction géométrique et du cinétisme en s’attachant à faire connaître et à promouvoir au plan international les différents développements de cette tendance, accompagne et soutient le travail de Pe Lang, qu’elle expose depuis 2013.

Born in 1974 in Switzerland, Pe Lang has a background in electronics and computer programming that influences the aesthetics of his artworks. The artist focuses on the creation of kinetic works, of a mysterious and captivating elegance, composed of mechanized systems involving physical phenomena: movement, magnetism, friction, sound, light diffraction, gravitation... These elements are combined and programmed in his works with balance, oscillating between order and chaos, control and coincidence, in order to create a visual and acoustic choreography in which the viewer finds these senses solicited. 

A figure of the new generation of constructive abstraction, Pe Lang is gradually establishing himself as a representative of a Swiss vision of concrete art characterized by the quality of execution as well as geometric form and sobriety. Absolute mastery of technological effects and the intrinsic properties of the materials used, rigorous control of movement and the reactions it generates, technical virtuosity even in the search for the most extreme sobriety of the devices adopted, Pe Lang strives to create minimalist works of great structural simplicity without ornamental signs.

His works can be seen in numerous permanent collections (Boghossian Foundation, Villa Empain, Brussels; Futurium, Berlin…) as well as in exhibitions devoted to him by contemporary art institutions (Museum of Digital Art, Zurich; Fondation Vasarely, Aix-en-provence; Johnson Museum of Art, New York…). His growing international recognition is also confirmed by the awards he has received, including the Aurélie Nemours Prize, which recognizes his work as well as his collaboration with the greek sound artist and composer Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri.

We are pleased to present for the third time a solo exhibition of Pe Lang. This solo show presents his most recent artistic exploration, continuing to conceive new mechanical spaces with a subtle aesthetic. The denise rené gallery, which since its creation has welcomed the most innovative proposals of geometric abstraction and kineticism, is committed to making known and promoting internationally the various developments of this trend, accompanies, supports and exhibits the work of Pe Lang since 2013.
